PPGR Letter of Resignation and Withdrawal from PPEU (and PPI)

Please find below the Greek Pirate Party’s letter of resignation received by the Boad on Friday the 13th of June

We hereby inform you that, in our 12th Congress held on 1 June 2025, we initiated deliberations that led to the Body of Members unanimously deciding for the party’s resignation and withdrawal from the PPI and the PPEU. After considering the evidence, the Body of Members concluded that they

(i) have abandoned the essence of the Pirate Ideology, which is antiracist, democratic, antimilitarist, pacifist, egalitarian, and promotes the peoples’ right to liberty and self-determination;
(ii) produce no political added value whatsoever;
(iii) do not enable constructive and productive political discourse.

Instead, those in charge systematically block any meaningful political discussion by using delay tactics, dismissive, condescending, and patronizing language, bad-faith methods like sealioning and gaslighting, threats of disciplinary actions for criticism of public political conduct, as well as “arguments” that employed the same nationalist tropes that were used by the right-wing Press to justify the punitive and destructive austerity packages imposed on Greece.

We refuse to be part of the further delegitimization and derailing of the Pirate Movement, and shall accept no further correspondence from the PPEU and PPI Boards.

For the Pirate Party of Greece (PPGR),
Vassilis N. Perantzakis
Chairperson of the Governing Board

Very sad news.
