One of the tools to express opposition to the project of Chat Control would be to gather signatures.
Do you know if European level petitions are already circulating?
Should we create one? I believe the PETI Committee of the European Union might be the best place to have it filed and brought to the co-legislator attention.
I am currently considering launching both a Change.org petition, to gather as much support as possible to attract media attention, simultaneously with a petition linked to the PETI Committee to get a foot into the European Parliament’s door.
Since it concerns an ongoing legislative proposal that falls within the competence of another committee, PETI is almost certain to find any petition related to chatcontrol inadmissible.
Have you read the stuff people send PETI’s way? It’s an impressive window into the humans of the Union.

There is already a Stop Chatcontrol petition on change.org with 2000 signatures. Perhaps it would be better to promote that one?

It’s an old one, and I have troubles identifying the collective behind.
I don’t have strong opinions on which one to promote, although there was a French petition pushed by a controverted individual. The French pirates are not too keen on pushing it, hence the need for a new one.
I suppose when the pirate network activates we could quickly reach more than 2000 signings?
Afaik it has not been pushed (neither by me or the French Pirates) yet, but I know the French Pirates are eager to have a link to push.
ok. I have my hands full this week, but I can have a text about the initiative on our website up by the end of the week. Then we can promote that along with the signature collection.
I can also flag it to Patrick Breyer and ask him to promote the signature collection. He has a decent reach on anything chat control.

I searched for other petitions over the weekend and only found the one you referred to, while waiting for other pirate’s input inside the thread.
I’ll ask Patrick once more if there’s one bigger petition we should relay instead before we initiate the pushing in the coming days.
