Create a PPEU Matrix Space

I know of a few Pirate Party’s that use Matrix as (more or less) primary communication platform.

Switzerland, Estonia and Germany, to name some.

It would be nice if the PPEU(or PPI) could create

  1. A PPEU Matrix Space(aka Group of Rooms and Spaces) with possibly all Pirate Parties in it(ideally one sub Space per party). That way it would be easy to get in touch with Pirates from other Countries.
  2. Make one “General” PPEU Chatroom, as easy point of exchange for e.g. EU Topics such as ChatControl etc
  3. Optionally Bridge or link to other Pirate Chatrooms from this common Space.

For Germany we currently also want to reorganize our PPDE Space to encompass all of our Matrix chatrooms because it’s pretty fragmented right now and hard to find even Pirates from other parts of Germany already.

Unfortunately I don’t see the European Pirates Secretariat have the capacity to do this at the moment. Neither to set it up, nor monitor the conversations to such an extent that it would make sense to have a General Chatroom for the European Pirates.

My suggestion would be that those pirate parties that run Matrix coordinate among themselves so their different spaces are properly connected.

I do like the idea, but the bandwidth is limited as Mab mentions.

I think bridging Matrix to different teams Mattermost ~town-square channels would be a way to connect separate groups. That would require @hacktor’s bot, maybe. IT would have to monitor and set up links, I don’t know if the bandwidth to do that is there.

Thanks, understandable, and good to here that you are open for it.

We also have limited bandwidth, but if anyone knows of other Pirates using Matrix or wants to cooperate on this and network just reach out to me(here or Matrix, E-Mail, see my Profile for more info,…)!

The main intention of this post was to get the idea out, nice to see a lot of feedback.
I will report here once the ball starts rolling.

Yeah, well I guess a lot of Pirates use different tools anyway, but since Matrix is federated and our official Messenger in Germany I think bringing all the Matrix Pirates together would be a good first step.
Next steps links, bridging etc.

This is where I agree with you, and also don’t. I feel that the European Pirates are not a political party in itself, rather a facilitator. So if ‘proper’ parties connect up their Matrix homeservers all the better. We can think about bridging to other platforms when the need arises. Yes.
