Nota: this thread can serve as an official idea box for now.
Dear Member Parties and Pirates,
In order to bring PPEU to its full potential, your input is needed. In a tense political landscape and when we have to face our struggles, we would like to ask for a collective effort.
First, we suggest to decide in which direction to use our ressources : what should be the goals, and the added value of PPEU ?
Second, we welcome ideas and proposals along with the persons carrying them on how to provide this value. Concrete steps and actions on how to work towards the goals of the organization while providing value to its members.
As the current board, we will present a plan to the 18th Council Meeting from the input gathered if it is sufficient.
Do not hesitate to reach out to us, we will reach out to you to initiate the input gathering process also through an anonymous form on top of this current asynchronous discussion thread.
I currently see two branches, one as a coordinating and concrete political group to assemble MEP under and the other as a service-provider for technical, instructive, financial resources and organizational support for MEPs or member parties.
Goals would be to maximize members in the European Parliament, recruit and onboards (poaching members from other parties) has been tried? We could always hope for elected pirates to appear from coming elections and do our best to support them, doing so by being involved actively.
Other thoughts?
Yeah since we are a Group in stead of a Party, We are European Pirates.
Thank you for your thoughts. I broadly agree and consider them as a good summary or compass for what the European Pirates could be.
About the “poaching”, the practice we currently have is to seek cooperation as much as possible, either with people who would be interested in joining the movement, or with movements who would like to form alliances, in whichever shape and form.
Until we reach a critical size (to independently build a recognised European Party, or to sufficiently influence European politics), it will be difficult to attract individual members, as they would stand to lose influence by switching over, imo.
